Get the true picture of domestic violence
That is the following statement made by the judge: “I deal with a lot of family law in this court. One rarely comes across instances of beatings. In this case we have three. Violence once would be unusual. Violence twice would be very unusual. Three times is exceptional.”
This comment raises serious questions about the massive State-financed campaigns on violence against women and the multi-million euro industry that has grown up around it.
Just before Christmas, Minister of State Willie O’Dea launched a publicity campaign, involving a poster which states that one of them is a wife beater and implies that wife beaters come from all walks of life.
If Mr O’Dea genuinely believes that, perhaps he would let us know what he intends to do about the approximately 20 members of the Fianna Fáil parliamentary party who beat their wives or the approximately 29 TDs who beat their wives. Indeed he might even be able to expose the identities of some of these political wife beaters.
