How many ministers are really needed?

NOW that junior transport minister Ivor Callely is no longer in the driving seat, isn’t it a wonder that the traffic is still moving during this holiday period?

All of which set me to wonder about the number of junior (and indeed senior) ministers we need. What do they do all day, apart from tending to their political clinics and availing of whatever photo opportunities might present themselves?

The fact is that some of them would not know a day’s work if it hit them in the face.
