Facing the facts

THOMAS HERLIHY (Irish Examiner letters, January 23) thinks the whole of Africa cannot support a cattle herd of 15 million.

Facing the facts

To put this figure in perspective, the South Africa Yearbook (2004-’05) estimates the herd in South Africa alone to be 14 million. While Mr Herlihy demands facts and figures, he seems to have a loose relationship with the facts himself.

He then repeats his mantra about how social welfare and low corporation tax distort competition, and so should be abolished. He concludes, falsely, that my objection to CAP is solely on these grounds. What part of the word ‘equity’ does he fail to understand?
