Angler’s final call

THIS year I booked three weeks’ salmon angling in west Cork.

I caught brown trout, sea trout and sea bass. I saw dolphins, otters and foxes, barn owls, pheasant, kingfishers, herons and hawks. I even saw an elephant at the circus in Clonakilty.

The one thing I did not see was a wild salmon. Unless the Government takes effective action to restore and preserve fish stocks, 2005 will be my last angling holiday in west Cork.
