Punitive charges for overbreeding of pets

I’M pleased to see Spay Week covered (Irish Examiner, October 7) but the figures you quote are the tip of the iceberg.

Punitive charges for overbreeding of pets

If 20,000 pets are destroyed by Government authorities, how many more are destroyed privately by their owners, vets and private refuges? And how many more are left to die, or exported to an uncertain future?

I'm also glad you pointed out that things are not much better in the UK. In recent correspondence with me, the RSPCA strongly state their objection to individuals and "welfare organisations" exporting unwanted Irish pets to the UK.
