Americans would love to have our choice

AS an American who recently visited Ireland I was impressed when I read in the Irish Examiner about the citizenship referendum.

Irish citizens are addressing a problem that could have a major impact on their future and a referendum is the most democratic way to do it.

I wish my own government was as democratic. If our citizens had been given a voice on the Iraq issue, our soldiers probably wouldn't be there right now.
