Mind-boggling act of political favouritism

CHARLIE McCreevy’s 15m grant to Punchestown racecourse has been rightly dismissed as so much political favouritism.

Mind-boggling act of political favouritism

But it’s mind-boggling when one considers the size of the grant at a time when we have overcrowded schools and a ramshackle health service crying out for increased funding.

But those of us who care about the welfare of animals oppose the rescue package for another reason: a leading hunt club owns the racecourse.

The so-called ‘Killing Kildares’ are, of course, no different from any other hunt in Ireland in terms of their capacity to destroy animals, but the very idea of taxpayers’ money being handed over to such a club must fill every compassionate human being in this state with disgust and horror.
