State investment in tobacco is incredible

ON behalf of ASH Ireland I want to express surprise at Finance Minister Charlie McCreevy's justification for investing in tobacco (Irish Examiner, July 21).

The minister confirmed that the State’s shares in tobacco firms amount to €24m.

It is incredible that the State continues to invest in tobacco and Minister McCreevy’s justification of this contradictory stance is most surprising.
