IN the wake of Dan Buckley’s article on waste management (Irish Examiner, Dec 1). I think that Cork — city and county — needs a proactive waste disposal strategy programme.

Recycling should be encouraged through more bring sites; we should have more repair and restoration centres, less unnecessary packaging and less household waste through composting.

We should use some of the projected 51m for the landfill site at Bottlehill to pursue this strategy. Surely people want value for their waste charges.
