Strange logic

YOU reported recently that there might be more house fires as smokers decided to drink at home since they are no longer allowed to smoke in pubs (Irish Examiner, October 5).

The report seems to imply, bizarrely, that the requirement that pubs be smoke-free might be to blame when, obviously, the cause would be the cigarettes which cause the fires to ignite.

It is smoking that poses the danger, not the measure to protect non-smokers from inhaling toxic second-hand fumes.
