Caoimhe should direct her protest at Arafat

I AM pleased that Caoimhe Butterly has ended her self-inflicted fast (Irish Examiner, June 24).

But perhaps next time she feels the need to make a political point she should protest against Yasser Arafat and his Palestinian Authority for it is they who have caused the reported 3,000 casualties of the last three-and-a-half years.

The terrible statistics the Palestinians have published highlight how pointless their intifada has been. Meanwhile, the security fence is reducing casualties on both sides and has been doing the job it was intended to do wherever the cement came from.
