YOU reported (Irish Examiner, June 22) that Justice Minister Michael McDowell said he did not know the full content of the Carty report until 2002 because he only received a 37-page precis of the report in August 2000.

I know gardaí are notoriously long-winded, but surely even a superintendent can get to the point in 37 pages?
