They’re not all good enough to beat the world
Mr Lewis suggests that the French and German under-17 sides that played in Cobh in October may be the World Cup finalists, man for man, in eight years time. This is very implausible.
On what basis is it reasonable to assume that both teams will have players who are all 25, and that no player in the French and German squads today will still be playing in eight years time?
Mr Lewis goes on to give examples of players who were once tipped for greatness but failed to live up to potential John Curtis and Liam George, for example yet we are to assume that the same 22 players in action in Cobh will turn out as predicted.
I realise that the notion of France v Germany in the 2010 final is just to provide a backdrop to the article on the French academy in general, but was it really needed?
