US driver test system exposes sick Irish joke

I AM living in New Orleans where my daughter, who is 15, attends drivers’ education school. She has had 30 hours’ schooling. After her 16th birthday, she will sit her driving test and will probably pass it.

Should she not pass it, she will go back next day and every day until such time as she does.

In contrast I have a son aged 22 who has just received his MBA. He is working and has been driving his car in Ireland since he was 18.

He still does not have a licence, but is allowed to drive all over the country on a provisional one. Why?

Because we still retain a stupid bunch in a dumb department where you can wait for up to a year to sit your test. Oh, and if you park outside the car park of the examination site, they can refuse to do the test and you wait another six months to a year.

When will Irish kids get a fair driving test in a timely fashion? Are they dumber then the kids from Louisiana? Are there less accidents? I don’t think so.

It’s a sick joke that has gone on for far too long.
