MANY arguments have been put forward in support of the new M3, most of them economic. Local business leaders and commuter representatives who have to use the present N3 demand ‘improvements’ in infrastructure.

Why, they ask, should they have to endure hours in their cars as they travel to work? Don’t let anything get in the way of the mighty euro. To these people the past is something to be pushed aside and forgotten.

Opponents of the proposed development are condemned as minority groups, tree-huggers and the lunatic fringe. They tell us that the Government have promised there will be no development allowed along the new M3, so everything will be all right.
