FÁS cuts will hit our education

I REFER to Carl O’Brien’s article on cuts to the FÁS scheme (Irish Examiner, Nov 4). We are a group of adults on various CE schemes who are worried about our positions. As part of our CE scheme we partake in a Return to Education programme for nine hours a week.

This is a boost to our morale and our confidence, as we prepare to re-enter the workforce with more developed skills. The education system let us down once before in the overcrowded, under-resourced classrooms of our youth. And now that we have a second chance, we fear that it may be taken from us.

The Government is prepared to erect a metal spike which no-one wants in O’Connell Street, at huge cost.
