Restore the student summer work scheme

WITH the summer holidays in full swing and most students now finished college, many are without employment due to the axing of the Student Summer Job Scheme.

The scheme, which was set up to stop students claiming unemployment benefit during the summer months, was axed by the Government in yet another attempt to claw back money from those who can least afford it.

The scheme was a source of income for approximately 4,000 students and many of these will face a dire financial situation when they return to college in the autumn due to the axing of the scheme.
