High-rise housing is a problem, not a solution

HIGH-RISE flats may be the only option for local authorities, by way of social housing, if land prices continue to soar. But this type of development will only create more problems for families, psychological and otherwise.

High-rise housing is a problem, not a solution

With no recreational facilities or playing areas, other than a corridor or the flat itself, this is a very bad start in life.

Dublin, Cork and many other parts of the country went for high-rise development some years back, and all have since been demolished. As a social worker, I visited some of these flats and saw the suffering of families in such accommodation.
