Cullen spikes the guns

CONGRATULATIONS to Environment Minister Martin Cullen on his decision not to lift the ban on game shooting over State lands.

Umbrella groups representing gun clubs and others had lobbied the Government to allow shooters to kill wildlife on these lands.

The State lands affected constitute only about 1% of the country's total land area. Already game shooters operate with impunity throughout most of the remaining 99% of our countryside. But that, apparently, was not enough for them.
