Planning contributes to increase in house costs
Planners often have a subjective view of what they consider would be right for a particular area, which would often be in marked contrast to what many people consider would be right.
For example, a farmer would often be prepared to sell a site to a young person at a reasonable price because he knew that person’s father or mother and would like that person to stay in rural Ireland to help build up a football team or contribute in some other way to the local community. Some farmers may have to sell sites to ensure the rest of their holding is viable. When such a planning application is submitted, a planner may grant permission on one site for a family member but stipulate that the rest of the farmer’s land is subjected to a section 38 agreement, a sterilisation agreement.
