By his own hand: a question for all of us

SUICIDE has become an everyday occurrence in Ireland. Facts and figures are more readily available now — the problem is no longer hidden like it used to be in order to avoid stigma. We now know the frightening scale of it all and how it is robbing us of so many people in such a terrible way that for years those closely affected by it will always wonder why.

By his own hand: a question for all of us

Suicide has increased dramatically in young males. The increase is truly alarming; it is five times more than that of females. Why?

We must look at our young and address the problems they are facing in this society. Bullying, exam pressures, sport pressures, popularity issues. Are we applying the pressure? In the world they are to inherit, success is all that matters, but do we know what it is costing them to succeed? Is it we elders who need to succeed?
