The unwelcome leader of a superior force

I SUPPOSE it was bound to happen and, in many ways, perhaps I should congratulate your correspondent Jim Yates on his letter entitled ‘Sour grapes on the red carpet’ (Irish Examiner, April 2).

He suggests that we are "bad losers" following the rugby debacle at Lansdowne Road last Sunday.

Yes, we lost to a superior team on the day.

It was a reasonably friendly atmosphere and we accepted defeat.

No, we did not enjoy it but our mood wasn't improved when the English captain Martin Johnson was so lacking in manners that he usurped the traditional ceremonial line-out thereby forcing his own RFU to apologise for his behaviour.

As the Scots would say, it's time he was sent home "tae think again". Better still, he should never come back.

Dermot S Harte,

Buttevant,

Co Cork.
