Ryanair mission to vilify trade unions

I WAS taken aback by recent reports of Michael O’Leary’s denigrating comments about trade unions at Dublin airport (Irish Examiner, Oct 24).

Ryanair mission to vilify trade unions

We are all aware that this is not Mr O’Leary’s first media attack on trade unions. For him to do so when a licensed trade union is engaged in a lawful form of industrial action is very unhelpful, though not unexpected, given his distaste for trade unions.

Vilifying the trade union movement appears to be part of Ryanair’s mission. There are more than 550,000 members of trade unions affiliated to ICTU. In anyone’s book that is a large group of people to alienate.

As a union member (and proud of it), I suggest that the response to Mr O’Leary should be to harness our not insignificant spending power and support our fellow trade union members by travelling with Aer Lingus.
