The empire strikes back

IN LAST Saturday’s Pick of the Day’s TV column in the Weekend Examiner we were told that one of Ireland’s stand-up comedians was “just waiting for the big break which would make him a household name in the rest of the UK”.

This is slipshod and ignorant. The writer then goes on to tell us how to say Ó Briain properly "Oh-bree-yan."

Well, I ask you, telling us Irish how to say something we know since infants' class!

Still, the Irish Examiner got it wrong... it is not 'Oh-bree-yan.' I also doubt that Dara Ó Briain was in a show called 'Never Mind the Gondolas.' The show, presented by Sean Moncrieff, was 'Don't Feed The Gondolas.'
