Horror story won’t go away

RTÉ's Prime Time special on clerical child sex abuse last Thursday horrified and angered me.

Horror story won’t go away

Most horrifying of all was the attemped cover-up by senior churchmen who buried their heads in the sand and hoped the matter would go away. It did not. It will not. Who are the greater criminals? Is it the abusers or those who, having knowledge of these crimes, sat back and did absolutely nothing about them?

Apologies count for nothing in this appalling scandal. The full weight of the criminal law must be invoked so that justice can be done, and can be seen to be done. Internal ‘audits’ are just not good enough.
