Orde did not produce a shred of evidence

CALLING for the political exclusion of Sinn Féin over the Northern Bank robbery, Denis Hurley (Irish Examiner letters, January 17) say that PSNI Chief Constable Hugh Orde “is not one to make outlandish statements without proof to back them up”.

But that is precisely what Hugh Orde has done not a shred of proof has been presented, but then this is nothing new from the PSNI or Mr Orde.

We have had similar allegations from Mr Orde and the PSNI alleging spy rings at Stormont and break-ins at Castlereagh where they have attempted to blame republicans. In both instances, time has clearly shown that there was no spy ring at Stormont and that there was no evidence either to support the bizarre notion that republicans broke into Castlereagh.

Mr Hurley should wait for Mr Orde to produce actual evidence tested in court before making any judgement.

The Morris Tribunal, Nicky Kelly's imprisonment, the cases of the Birmingham Six, Guilford Four and the Maguire family are all proof of what happens when we accept in blind faith the words of any policeman, regardless of who they are.
