Backseat drivers send Young FG wrong way

I WAS both saddened and amazed when viewing the Young Fine Gael website to see on its main front page an offensive photo of two young men mooning from the back seat of what appears to be a state car!

Backseat drivers send Young FG wrong way

Like most people, I have a sense of humour.

However, to use an image that could be deemed offensive and degrading to many viewers is totally counter-productive and takes away from a very legitimate campaign encouraging greater driver education.

How can Young FG be serious in "calling on the Government to invest in driver education" as stated on the website when the offending photo not only depicts, but in my opinion encourages the ultimate in laddish behaviour, ie, the illegal act of mooning which is covered (no pun intended) under the laws of indecent exposure?

What hope would young people have in getting reduced car insurance if they were to behave like this on our roads?

Many Irish citizens have been fined and, in some cases, jailed for similar acts of mooning or flashing while on holiday abroad.

In this country several people have appeared before the courts for this offence.

One often reads in the papers comments from outraged residents in places like Temple Bar in Dublin who have to put up with this anti-social behaviour every weekend.

The photo caption boldly states: "This is what the Government is saying to young drivers."

What I'd like to know is, by using such imagery what exactly is Fine Gael saying to young drivers?

PS: Since emailing this complaint to the national director of Young Fine Gael to which I have still not received any response the offending photo and associated press statement have mysteriously moved to the archives section of the website.
