We trace everyone except the retailer

I REFER to the article entitled ‘Frozen imported lamb being sold as fresh to the consumer’ (Irish Examiner Farming, June 19).

Is there any chance we could get a bit of sanity into the food business? While the Department of Agriculture and the Food Safety Authority (FSA) are tracing the animal seed and breed, as well as the hygiene standards of producer and processor, the retailer can sell almost anything at any price over the counter.

Isn’t it about time the department and the FSA told the consumer what they are buying, and label the products accordingly. As everyone knows, refreezing meat is highly dangerous.
