Garda speed ‘ambushers’ in wrong place for wrong reason

THE Minister for Justice has announced increased funding to expand the traffic corps in an attempt to curb the carnage on our roads.

Will this increased funding again be used to train gardaí to hide in bushes and behind bridge piers on recently opened sections of roads, where the potential for accidents is minimal - or, as I hope, will the funds be used to provide speed checks in areas where they are needed?

We now have the farcical situation where, after opening new and safer stretches of roadway, we attract the white cars and radar guns to them like bees to honey.
