Incinerator site in a pollution blackspot
At the time he wrote his letter (Irish Examiner, November 12), he already had been given a licence by the Enviornmental Protection Agency (EPA) permitting the release of up to 80 kg of mercury into the environment each year.
The Cork harbour region is Ireland’s most polluted area - according to a European survey released early this year. Indaver’s choice of Ringaskiddy shows they’re trying to be very clever.
With so many polluters around it will be very hard to make out who the real culprits are.
John Ahern and Micheal Martin, Minister for Enterprise and former Minister for Health and Children, himself a strong advocate of incineration, should be asked by the people of Cork to move house to Ringaskiddy - along with their families. They might get houses for a bargain.
