Tunnel closure notices should be up in lights

RECENTLY, before the latest closure caused by structural damage, I and countless other drivers approached the Jack Lynch tunnel in Cork unaware that it was closed for maintenance.

Tunnel closure notices should be up in lights

We had to return to the Kinsale Road roundabout before we could head northwards again.

This detour took an additional 10 miles to travel from the south to the north approach of the tunnel.

Each time the tunnel is closed, this long detour, as well as the initial unnecessary journey to get to it, wastes a lot of time.

Might I suggest that the National Roads Authority places electronic notice boards at the approach to the Kinsale Road roundabout and at other access points to the South Link road to notify drivers of tunnel closures?
