What the US is really up to?
For instance, there was no mention of the fact that prior to coup attempt last April, the US National Endowment For Democracy increased its overt funding to opponents of President Chavez, funnelling this money through the International Republican Institute.
This overt funding is probably just a fraction of covert funding to anti-Chavez groups What we have in Venezuela is an attempt by Washington to effect another ‘regime change.
It seems that the US continues to take upon itself the right to decide what kind of government a country shall have Using its armoury of well-tried dirty tricks, the US government is engaged in a covert campaign to oust the democratically elected President of Venezuela and put a US-compliant leader in his place because:
(a) His attempt to shift power and wealth to the poor, and retain state control of Venezuela’s oil, runs counter to the requirements of free market globalisation
(b) Chavez won’t abide by the US illegal embargo against Cuba.
(c) Most importantly, Washington wants to gain firmer control over Venezuela’s oil.
The trouble is these views are never reported so, essentially, people only receive the version of events that suits the US government.
