I WAS delighted to discover that I have become a fine short story writer from Killarney, according to Anne Lucey’s ‘interesting’ article (Irish Examiner, July 22).

Furthermore, as a life-long fan of Samuel Beckett, I was profoundly stunned to discover that my dramatic hero had described me as a “writer of genius”.

Thanks, Sam; the feeling is mutual.

It is no doubt possible that I may be related to Séamus de Faoite of Cill Áirne, but to use a publicity shot of myself from the stage version of Paris, Texas (pic: Andrew Downes, by the way), taken in 2003, and suggest that this is the same Séamus de Faoite of Killarney is to stretch genetic possibility into the far-off reaches of fantasy.
