You’re a Star system favours the male voice

FURTHER to Paul Seymour’s questioning of RTE’s system of delivering the popular vote for the You’re A Star final (Irish Examiner, March 11), there is one problem with the programme which its makers cannot overcome in the current format.

You’re a Star system favours the male voice

Last year the three finalists were all male. This year Jean Elliott made it to the final three, but lost out to her male rivals. The reason? Men do not vote for You’re a Star. Women, and especially young girls, do.

Chris Doran is the archetypal boy band unit, just as runner-up Simon Casey was last year. Jean Elliott’s ability to tackle so many different genres was refreshing, to say the least.
