Prime Time did not get facts wrong

IN his column (Irish Examiner, April 19), Rónán Mullen accuses RTÉ's Prime Time programme of "getting some important facts wrong".

Prime Time did not get facts wrong

This was in relation to our reporting of how Bishop Donal Murray and the diocese of Limerick dealt with the case of the late Peter McCloskey - a man who alleged he had been the victim of clerical sex abuse in the diocese in the late 1980s.

He goes on to instance just one fact which he claims we got wrong.

In fact, it is Rónán Mullen who is wrong. Prime Time reported correctly that the victim travelled to Australia and discovered a large amount of documentation about his alleged abuser.

The contents of this documentation were detailed accurately on the programme. Prime Time also reported correctly that he had subsequently received information from the diocese of Sydney about another allegation of abuse against this same priest.

Prime Time did not report, as Rónán Mullen incorrectly asserts, that Peter McCloskey discovered information on this second abuse allegation "during his visit to Australia".
