It’s a bit unfair to see the result of the Spanish general election as “giving in” to terrorists (Keith Davies, Irish Examiner letters, March 17).

Terrorism the legacy of meddling superpowers

So-called democratic governments have used the war on terror to roll back civil liberties, and I fear we may yet see a witch-hunt where the label "terrorist" will be used as "communist" was in 1950s America, or "witch" in the middle ages.

Thus terrorists have succeeded already in getting governments to undermine our democracies.
