Pearse and paedophilia: leave it to the reader

PATRICK WALSH (Irish Examiner letters, November 5) took issue with my column of October 29 in which I quoted Patrick Pearse’s poem, ‘Little Lad of the Tricks’.

Pearse and paedophilia: leave it to the reader

I introduced that poem with a single sentence: “In light of the events of this week it seems appropriate to quote a poem written by a famous teacher.”

After quoting the poem in full, I referred to it in just two sentences: “Maybe you would not allow the author of that poem to teach your children, but Bertie apparently would. The author was Patrick Pearse, the high priest of Irish Republicanism.”
