Amid all the culture, where’s the humour?

I READ with great interest the programme to celebrate Cork’s designation as European capital of culture. I look forward to a wonderful year of activity.

Amid all the culture, where’s the humour?

However, unless I missed something, there is one glaring omission. Though I have lived in Cork a mere 32 years, if I were asked to pick its outstanding cultural feature I would, without hesitation, go for the humour of its people.

It is a subtle art form rightly held by all true Cork people to be vastly superior to that of any other city in the world, yet there is no mention of it in Cork’s biggest year ever... not a sausage.
