Achievements of the Reagan revolution
Star Wars was a brilliant idea that is even more relevant now that China and some other nations are aiming nuclear missiles at us.
The budget deficit was caused by the Democrat-controlled congress and wasn’t corrected until the Republicans gained control in 1994. Reaganomics favoured a private sector unfettered by central control, allowing individuals to take risks and build businesses.
The air traffic controllers violated federal law which prohibited their going on strike; they were given a chance to return to work and refused. Mr Kennan’s claim that workers’ wages were lowered are patently untrue. He also claims that a majority of those who re-elected Reagan disagreed with his policies. This is nonsense.
Iran had been holding American civilians hostage for months, and was clearly our enemy, while it was at war with Iraq. There have been many false statements about US ‘aid’ to Saddam.
Reagan correctly identified the Soviet Union as an ‘evil empire’. While communism succumbed to its own weaknesses, Reagan nonetheless halted the expansion of the empire.
