Wage slavery

DESPITE the new national minimum wage - which employers clearly do not support - we would do well to remember that many workers will not receive €7.65 an hour from May.

Employers may pay those under 18 just €5.36 per hour, and even when they turn 18 they can pay €6.12 for a year, and €6.89 for another year.

This discrimination based on age enables employers to take advantage of young people by having a high rate of staff turnover. I wonder if the protests would have been even louder if the rate was €7 per hour for everyone?
