Over-70s fall victim to ageist travel insurance

WELL done to Jim Ross who, through the Equality Authority, won his case against the Royal and Sun Alliance Insurance Company for its refusal to offer him car insurance because he was over 70.

This follows on the recent suggestion that the retirement age be extended to 75. Perhaps the hope is that the extra effort involved would bring about our premature demise, thus saving the State even further expense?

Perhaps the Equality Authority might now investigate the fact that travel insurance is not universally available to those of us in the over-70 category?

Even where it is available, we are required to pay a double premium. This is surely a case of penal discrimination on age grounds.
