ON a recent trip to the Algarve I ventured out to one of the ubiquitous Irish bars to watch the Ireland v Switzerland match.

After the game, at approximately 10pm, I visited a different Irish establishment only to end up sharing my seat with a number of sunburnt sleeping toddlers.

While this was happening their parents merrily proceeded to enjoy themselves as if their kids were not present. Although a sceptic of the ban on kids in bars in Ireland prior to my holiday, I have returned an advocate.
