Rent allowance prejudice is rife
In the past, I have experienced
estate agencies turning away tenants eligible for rent allowance without even first consulting the property owner.
The prejudice against rent
allowance, therefore, is not only confined to landlords, but is rife within the rental business.
When questioning an estate agent’s refusal to accept rent
allowance recently, I was told “there is a certain social stigma attached to those on rent allowance”. This social stigma has been fuelled by both
individual landlords and rental agencies, who continue to engage in large scale tax evasion and social prejudice by refusing to accept those eligible for rent allowance.
I would be interested in hearing a response from any rental agencies actually engaged in promoting the acceptance of rent allowance among its clients.
