Have you seen pigs carrying sticks?

I WOULD like to make contact with readers who have an interest in making long and short-term weather predictions based on amateur observation rather than on a scientific basis.

The tradition of weather watching or amateur forecasting in Ireland has been passed on from generation to generation and has brought with it a wealth of lore and anecdotal observations.

For example, "when pigs carry sticks, the clouds will play tricks; when they lie in the mud, no fear of a flood."

I would like to hear from readers who can share some insight into the weather and our unique relationship with it in this country.

Whether in urban or rural areas, weather has a central presence in all our lives. If you are a keen amateur weather forecaster with some knowledge and experience of making seasonal weather predictions whether realised or not your input would be most welcome. I would be especially interested in hearing from people who can speak Irish.
