There’s no sense to post office closure
In the particular circumstances of this case I am disgusted by the insensitivity of the timing of the closure.
A spokesperson for An Post claims that service will resume shortly. If this is the case why was it closed down at all? Pubs, factories and corporations change hands every day without having to close down.
This closure will have a real impact on the elderly and indeed on all customers in the area. Whitechurch is a large community with poor public transport links to the city and none to neighbouring villages such as Carraig na Bhfear and Blarney. Significant numbers of new homes have been built and Major housing developments are planned.
One arm of government is implementing a national spatial strategy, attempting to have a more balanced approach to development in Ireland; another arm is shutting down essential services.
An Post is a public service, subsidised and paid for by the people of Ireland including Whitechurch. Closing this post office is a mistake and a badly implemented one at that.
lWhitechurch Community Association is holding a public meeting at 8.30 pm tomorrow in the Community Centre.
I would urge everyone concerned to attend.
