Rip-off Ireland: go to America for real value

I HAVE been reading with great interest Damien Enright’s column (Irish Examiner on Mondays) on his experiences living abroad.

Having lived in and out of Ireland for the last 20 years I am only too aware of the rip-off Irish people are dealing with from greedy retailers, publicans, hoteliers, etc.

I returned to Cork last October after 12 months divided between Fort Lauderdale and Seattle in the US, both considered expensive cities to live in. With a few exceptions, most day-to-day items, from newspapers to rent, are better value. As for property...
