IN the 1980s when I first went to Limerick as a student, I remember someone describing it as a city that thinks it’s a town, and Galway as a town that thinks it’s a city - while Cork was the ‘real capital’ of Ireland.

City needs to show more ambition

I think that Limerick, even then, had the attributes of a beautiful city, and even more so now.

However, the lack of ambition for the city is in stark contrast with that shown by the people and politicians in other cities in Ireland and across the world.
