IT’S interesting to see the priority the Government has given to new legislation for the protection of the elderly in nursing homes.

Apparently it can wait until the autumn when our leaders get back from their summer holidays. After all, the elderly aren’t going anywhere.

It’s not that long since Mary Harney tried to rush through legislation retroactively to legitimise the institutionalised robbery of the same defenceless elderly people. Only the fact that President McAleese questioned the validity of the legislation saved the pensions of the very people who built the state we live in today.
