A place of beauty in need of protection

IT’S a shame that building on the Ardmore cliff headland in Co Waterford is not prohibited.

A place of beauty in need of protection

The Cliff Hotel area and St Declan’s Well also should be protected.

Excess traffic will overload the sandy cliff and it could eventually slip into the sea. Every time I visit I see more barricades against erosion.

It’s obvious already that the cliff needs support since supporting structures have been built from the boat cove to the pier.

I hope that local people and visitors alike will make a joint effort to preserve the beauty of this landscape.

I know money talks and it speaks loudest when builders and landowners conspire.

But freedom is important, too, freedom to ramble this beautiful landscape, free spaces for recuperation and meditation, unspoilt nature, preserved wilderness.

It is possible, in my view, to thrive and prosper without destroying the foundation of the natural wealth this part of Ireland offers.
