Assault case ruling

IT’S unkind to donkeys and over generous to legislators to say the law is an ass. How frustrating to the gardaí involved in the Franklin assault case and the parents of the victim the court decision must have been (Irish Examiner, March 16).

How unreal the decision is to people on the street; it has neither logic, fair play nor commonsense to support it. In the legislative context, flawed laws require urgent reform.

Are our Minister for Justice and his colleagues in the Dáil too busy playing phoney political games instead of reforming and updating antique laws that are useless in the modern world ?
